LCISD Rube Goldberg Competition

A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately complex "machine" in which a series of devices are linked together to complete a simple task. Developing a Rube Goldberg machine allows our students opportunities to be creative thinkers, use key concepts they have learned about simple machines, and to work together as a team in creating a truly novel, unique creation!

Rube Goldberg Competition

For 2018-19 school year, LCISD students were challenged to create machines that would unzip a zipped bag in as many steps as possible. Each campus was provided the following materials to make the machine:

  • 5 cardboard sheets
  • ½ pound of marbles
  • 1 length of string
  • 4 toilet paper tubes
  • 25 jumbo craft sticks
  • 20 library books
  • Regular scotch tape
  • 4 book ends
  • Water bottles
  • Clothes pins
  • 10 empty tissue boxes
  • $20 in Amazon purchase
  • 7 balloons
  • 1 roll of duct tape
  • 3 spice tins
  • 8 plastic cups
  • 2 pieces of pipe insulation
  • 20 pipe cleaners
  • 2 plastic spoons
  • 5 drinking straws
  • 40 dominoes
