Compensatory Education

 

The goal of the Compensatory Education Program (Comp Ed) is to reduce disparities in academic performance and high school completion between students who are at risk of dropping out of school and other students. The purpose of the Compensatory Education Program is to increase academic achievement and reduce the dropout rate for these students by providing compensatory, intensive, and accelerated instructional programs and services.

Texas Education Code (TEC) and Texas Administrative Code (TAC)

The Texas Education Code (TEC) §28.0211 relates to satisfactory performance on state assessment instruments and providing accelerated instruction to certain students.

  • The TEC §29.081 establishes the purpose of the Compensatory Education, Intensive, and Accelerated Instruction Program and the statutory criteria for determining whether a student is at risk of dropping out of school.

  • The TEC §29.089 allows school districts and charter schools to use Compensatory Education funds for mentoring programs under specified conditions.

  • The TEC §48.104 provides the method for the Texas Education Agency to calculate school district and charter school Compensatory Education allotments.

  • 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §61.1027 addresses the eligible student count used in determining the Compensatory Education allotment.
