LCISD Students compete in ProStart competition

Feb 14, 2014 | Joel Garrett

Saturday, February 8, 2014 the Texas ProStart Regionals Competition was held at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.  Each school is allowed to bring one team of four students, plus one alternate, to compete in the Culinary event and one team of four students, plus one alternate, compete in the Management event.  Both Terry High School and Foster High School took Culinary teams to this event to represent our school district. Terry High School also entered students in the Management event.

The following students competed on the culinary team for THS, Marque See, Tyeisha Earls, Juan Negrete, and Vallerie Vasquez. They were put to the test to show off their Knife skills, Leadership, and Timing Skills by creating a three course meal for two in one hour using only two butane burners and no electricity.  The Culinary Team was led By Marque See.

The following students competed on the Management team for THS, Ashley Cordova, Jamarcus Foster, Gabriella Hernandez, and Jennifer Valle. They created a restaurant concept complete with a business plan.   They had to give a ten minute verbal presentation to the judges and answer a five minute Q & A based upon their presentation.  This process is very similar to the show “Shark Tank.”  Immediately afterward, the team faced 3 judges answering a twenty minute Q & A based upon Marketing, Workplace Safety, Customer Service, and Concept Knowledge. The Management was led by Ashley Cordova.

We are extremely proud of their performance!
