2021-2022 Virtual Learning Program

Overview

During the 2021-2022 school year, Lamar CISD will offer a virtual learning option for a limited number of students enrolled in kindergarten through sixth grade. This option is provided for families concerned with sending their students to school due to anxiety surrounding COVID-19.

Parents of students participating in the virtual learning program this fall can view the online orientation session below.

Application Process

The application for virtual learning is currently closed. For more information, please contact your child's campus.

As a reminder, this virtual learning option is not intended to serve our immuno-compromised students or students with diagnosed anxiety disorders. We will continue to serve those students separately on a case-by-case basis through homebound services.

Virtual Learning Requirements

  • Students who apply for virtual learning must commit to an entire semester in the program, or through the end of the second 9 weeks for elementary students.
  • Students enrolled in virtual learning will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities or clubs on campus.
  • Additionally, students who are not academically successful in the virtual offering will be required to return to on-campus learning.

To be considered for acceptance into the virtual learning program, students must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have an immuno-compromised household member documented by a physician licensed to practice in the United States
  • Be a K-6 student where family is concerned about sending student to school due to anxiety surrounding COVID-19

Acceptance into the virtual learning option will be announced no later than Friday, Sept. 3, and is based on the availability of appropriate staff. Parents interested in this option are encouraged to apply as soon as the application becomes available on Aug. 23.

Virtual learning will officially begin on Monday, Sept. 13 and will continue for a semester, or longer depending on the status of COVID-19 in our community, as well as the availability of vaccines for students under 12.

Parents are encouraged to send students to school until the virtual program begins. However, the District and campuses will work with our families to ensure students don't fall behind academically. Free digital resources will be available to parents through the District website this week and curriculum for these students will be adjusted to ensure they don't miss essential learning to be successful in their current grade level.

Students who remain at home until the virtual program begins on Sept. 13 will not have absences counted against them and they will not be in violation of truancy laws. The District is communicating this information to all campuses as well.
