2020-2021 Update and TEA Guidance

Jul 08, 2020 | Community Relations

We know there has been much uncertainty over the last few weeks regarding plans for the 2020-2021 school year. We appreciate your patience as we remain thoughtful in our planning process and prioritize the safety of the Lamar CISD community and the continuity of high-quality instruction.

Yesterday, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) announced its first public health guidance regarding protocols for reopening schools. The guidance includes requirements for parental and public notices, health and safety protocols to prevent the virus from entering and spreading in schools, and practices to respond to a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 on campus. This guidance aligns with the majority of the work our Lamar CISD Transition Team has been developing since last semester. The Transition Team has developed its plans with input from parents, teachers, staff, central office and campus administration.

The District’s 2020-2021 guidelines to reopen schools will be released publicly on Wednesday, July 15. Plans will be posted on the District’s website, social media and sent to parents via email.

It is important for all of us to expect change. There are many moving parts with this global pandemic and we will continue to use guidance from the state—along with the feedback from parents, teachers, and staff—to refine our plans for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.

As always, your patience and support is appreciated as we work to keep our students, staff and community safe.
