Removal of the Campus Enrollment Cap for Schools for the 2024-2025 Academic Year

Lamar CISD is among the fastest-growing school districts in Texas, and student enrollment continues to climb. As a result of the growing student population, we placed enrollment caps on several campuses during the last two years.

To keep up with our growth, we frequently build and open new schools while reviewing and monitoring enrollment. After careful consideration and planning, we are pleased to announce that for the 2024-2025 school year, we are removing the cap on student enrollment for the following campuses:

  • Bentley ES
  • Hubenak ES
  • Huggins ES
  • Lindsey ES
  • Morgan ES
  • Tamarron ES
  • George Ranch HS

We anticipate increased accessibility to our schools when we remove the cap. However, we understand that some of our families have grown accustomed to the overflow campuses. Therefore, we want to clarify the options available for families impacted by the cap and overflow process.

If your student will be in 5th grade for the 2024-2025 school year and is attending an overflow campus, you can either continue with your student attending the overflow campus for the upcoming school year or have your student attend their home/zoned campus. It is important to note that if you choose to keep your student at the overflow campus, you are responsible for their transportation to and from school.

This option is ONLY available to students who will be in 5th grade for the 2024-2025 school year. It does NOT apply to any siblings of that student.

We understand that this decision may present challenges for some families, and we are committed to providing support and assistance wherever possible. If you have any questions or concerns regarding enrollment, please contact [email protected].

Michael Tsao is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2022 at George Ranch High School.

The son of Debbra and Allen Tsao, he will attend Rice University, majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish on a pre-med pathway. Upon receiving his undergraduate degree, Michael has plans to work in the medical field or in public policy research. Ultimately, Michael says he aims “to find a career that enables me to be an agent of change in the daily lives of others. I hope to support my community and family in the future the way they have supported me throughout my life.”

While at George Ranch, Michael was the president of the Spanish Honor Society and the co-founder and co-president of the chemistry club. Michael also served as the head drum major for the Longhorn Band, was community service co-chair for student council and an active member for the National English Honor Society and NHS. Outside of school, Michael volunteered at Helping Hands and was a junior coach for a neighborhood swim team.

While at George Ranch, Michael was recognized multiple times for his achievements. The most notable included being selected as a National AP Scholar with distinction and being recognized as a qualifier for UIL State Solo & Ensemble, earning Superior Rating, four times.

Reflecting on his high school experience and looking towards the future, Michael encourages his classmates to always stay curious and try to learn something new. He urges his fellow longhorns to Seek to understand new and different perspectives, but never stray from your core values. Leaving GRHS with the fondest of memories, Michael will never forget the kindness, wisdom and dedication of his teachers and the unending lessons and mentorship they provided him with.

He leaves his fellow Longhorns with his favorite quote: “Live life to the fullest. You have to color outside the lines once in a while if you want to make your life a masterpiece. Laugh some every day. Keep growing, keep dreaming, keep following your heart. The important thing is not to stop questioning.” –Albert Einstein

Mark Mcculloch is the Salutatorian for the Class of 2022 at George Ranch High School.

The son of Stacey and Kurt Mcculloch, he will attend Texas A&M University, with plans to study Mechanical Engineering.

While at George Ranch, Mark was involved in the Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, Academic Decathlon, DECA, TSA, Math Honors Society and was the Co-Founder and President of the Life Skills Club and the We Can Care Organization. Outside of school, Mark spent time volunteering at the Mamie George Community Center, had his own tutoring business and played AA travel hockey. Additionally, Mark was also recognized as a National AP Scholar and received numerous awards through DECA and TSA.

As his life goes on, Mark hopes to continue learning, give back to those who helped shape him, take part in philanthropy and be a considerate and compassionate person. When asked to give advice to his fellow graduates, Mark states that his fellow classmates should recognize that life is precious and never take it for granted. After leaving his alma mater, he says he will remember many of the hardworking teachers, kind peers, and the one-minute bell warning. He leaves his fellow Longhorns with two of his favorite quotes:

“Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts” by Winston Churchill

“Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new.” - Augustine Og Mandino.
