It looks like our state legislature is going to push the new A-F school accountability system back a few years to try and fine tune it. There is a House and a Senate version and each one is slightly different. One of the criteria that the state legislature is looking at is putting in other accountability measures beside just test scores. Some areas that may be included would be student clubs and other extra-curricular activities that would be student-oriented. Test scores would still make up at least half of the accountability ratings while attendance and school-sponsored activities would also be used as a measure of the quality of the school. Who knows what the final accountability system is going to look like. We will be ready for whatever is passed by our legislature.
Kindergarten Round-up will be the last week of April this year. Dates are April 24-28. If you have a kindergarten student starting next year, we would encourage you to register him/her during this week so we can get an accurate picture of the enrollment which will let us be able to determine the number of teachers needed next year. If you have neighbors or friends with kindergarten aged children, please encourage them to register also. Remember if your child turns 5 years of age on or before September 1st, then they are eligible to begin public kindergarten.
Students have a day off this Friday, April 14 and Monday, April 17 for the Easter Holiday. We hope you enjoy the time off with your family.
