8th Grade Boys Basketball Tryout Information 

Thank you for your interest in Wright Lion Basketball! Wright Lion basketball program will emphasize academic excellence, class and sportsmanship and athletic excellence. The expectation and goal for Wright Basketball players is to be a high character scholar athlete. We want our young men to strive to be champions on and off the court.  I am very excited about the coming season and honored to have the opportunity to work with your young men. The Wright Junior High Basketball vision and mission is to help develop high character young men that will lead and serve their community.  

Wright Junior High Boys eight grade Tryouts will be held on: 

    November 2nd – November 4th from 4:15 P.M- 6:15 P.M. 

In order to participate in tryouts players must have their physical, rank one paper completed, and they must be academically eligible. Players are expected to arrive at Wright Junior High fully dressed in basketball attire ready to workout.  

Tryouts will include: 

Skill test- Passing, shooting, layups, ball handling and defense. 

Game Play: 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 3, and 5 on 5.  

Team Drills: Passing, layups, ball handling, shooting, triple threat and defensive drills.  

The first day of tryouts will be a skill test evaluation and the second day of tryouts will be a scrimmage test evaluation. After the first two days of tryouts the coaching staff will make their first cuts based on the performance of the skill and scrimmage test.  Players who don’t make the first cut will be notified before the third day of tryouts. On the third day of tryouts all players will participate in 4 skill stations that are led by the Wright Junior High coaching staff. After the players complete the skill stations, they will play multiple games to compete for a roster spot. On the third day of tryouts final cuts will be made.  

Each team will have 12-15 players on the roster.  If your athlete doesn’t make the roster this year, we highly encourage them to train hard and tryout next season. The players who make the team will report to their first practice on Monday November 7th. Eight grade basketball players will practice during eight period and after school until 5:30.

November 3rd 6:00 A.M – 8:00 A.M 

November 4th 6:00 A.M- 8:00 A.M
