Bess Campbell

Campbell Elementary is the first Lamar school named for a teacher. Bess Campbell was a well-respected Lamar CISD teacher who is said to epitomize the dedication and service of all the district’s teachers. She taught in Lamar from the late 1940’s until her retirement from Lamar High School in 1973. Bess Campbell was an intelligent lady known as knowledgeable in subject matter and having a passion for teaching. She both inspired and encouraged her students while demanding their very best. The students and staff at Campbell Elementary strive to follow the example of Bess Campbell by holding forth expectations of excellence while enthusiastically meeting the challenges of each and every day.
