2024 Demographics Study Reports Unique Hypergrowth at Lamar CISD

Jan 24, 2024 | Lamar CISD Communications

January 24, 2024  – Rosenberg, Texas – Last night, the Lamar CISD Board of Trustees hosted a workshop to discuss annual growth and a demographic report presented by Zonda Education, which identified trends that significantly exceed “fast-growth,” and place the district in a unique category of “hypergrowth.” A district is classified as fast-growth when an elementary school zone has between 150 to 300 new home starts every year. If an elementary school attendance zone has more than 300 new home starts annually, then it is classified as hypergrowth.

Currently, Lamar CISD has two zones with more than 700 new home starts, three zones with more than 300 new home starts, and three zones with 150 to 300 new home starts. Due to this growth, our district is equivalent to three fast-growing districts.

Some additional key takeaways from the report include the following:

  • Once again, Lamar CISD is the fastest-growing school district in the Houston area, surpassing Conroe ISD and Fort Bend ISD, with 3,818 new home starts and 4,110 home closings annually.
  • During the next decade, the district is expecting an average of 2,135 newly enrolled students every school year including 800 elementary students, which is equivalent to the capacity of one new elementary school per year.
  • Groundwork for new neighborhoods is currently underway on roughly 3,440 lots across the district. There are 37 active neighborhoods with 44,712 future home sites with a projected growth of more than 4,000 new homes for the next 15 to 20 years.
  • The district is forecasted to have more than 55,100 students by the 2028-2029 school year and more than 65,700 students by 2033-2034.

Lamar CISD has requested Zonda Education provide these updates quarterly to support the district with increased foresight and planning. The group is a national research firm that offers enrollment projections, attendance zone planning, and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping for more than 100 school districts annually.

The last demographic report was completed in 2022 by Population and Survey Analysts (PASA).
