Valedictorian and Salutatorian for Terry High School's Class of 2023

Valedictorian Salutatorian


Valedictorian Pamela Arreguin
is the daughter of Evelia and Jorge Arreguin. Pamela plans to attend Sam Houston State University where she plans to major in Victim Studies. Her goal is to become a Victims’ Advocate and eventually a prosecutor.

During her time at Terry, Pamela was actively involved, including choir where she served as Public Relations Officer, the Academic Decathlon, and National Honor Society.

She has received several honors, including the Smith-Hutson Scholarship Program, the Deborah Bliese Memorial Law Enforcement Endowed Scholarship Fund, the Judge and Mrs. James A. Elkins Endowed Scholarship Fund, and a designation as an AP Scholar with Honors.

Her favorite quote by C.S. Lewis speaks to her determination and resilience, “You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”

Pamela would like to recognize her mother for her unwavering support and encouragement. Her mother migrated to the U.S. from Mexico at the age of 16 and worked tirelessly to provide her family with a better life until becoming a naturalized American citizen.

Pamela’s goals are to be a pillar of support for others especially her family, and to be on the back of a U.S. quarter. In her free time, she enjoys knitting, singing and movie critiques.

Salutatorian Giovanni Fuentes is the son of Maria Barrera and Gustavo Fuentes. He has been accepted into Texas A&M University, where he will major in Computer Engineering. Giovanni's passion for technology has inspired him to become a computer engineer.

During his time at Terry, Giovanni was actively involved in the Technology Student Association, where he served as Vice President. He also participated in the College Community Career and Workforce Industry Training programs.

He received several honors including the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, the Greer/Mays/Wright Industrial Arts Memorial Scholarship, the Gulf Coast TSA scholarship, The George Foundation Higher Education Scholarship, and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Scholarship.

Giovanni's favorite quote by Will Rogers speaks to his drive and ambition, “Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.”

Giovanni would like to recognize a few individuals who have supported him throughout his academic journey, including his Aunt Graciela and Uncle David for their unwavering support over the past three years in the absence of his parents. He would also like to thank his brother Cesar for guiding him through high school, the college application process, scholarship applications, and serving as a role model. Additionally, he would like to recognize his parents for instilling in him the mentality to excel academically.

Lastly, Giovanni would like to thank Ms. Gresham for encouraging him to take on different TSA events, which helped him discover new areas of interest in STEM.

Giovanni’s goal is to take his family out of financial hardship and to focus on his own path to success. In his free time, he enjoys soccer, the accordion and music production.
