Class of 2020 Graduation Update

May 28, 2020 | Community Relations

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we want to assure you the safety and well-being of our students, staff and community is always our top priority. The District is also committed to celebrating the accomplishments of our Class of 2020 graduates.

Throughout the COVID-19 process, our high school principals have received feedback from parents and students wanting in-person graduation ceremonies. We know how hard our seniors have worked to get to this moment, and Lamar CISD wants to honor the preferences of our community, while keeping our students and staff safe.

In an effort to balance safety and traditional ceremonies, the District is planning to hold Lamar CISD graduation ceremonies from June 26 to June 30. To comply with the Governor’s recently issued guidance on graduation ceremonies and large-group events, all Lamar CISD graduation ceremonies will now be moved outdoors to Legacy Stadium in Katy. Due to ongoing construction, Traylor Stadium is not an option.

The 2020 graduation dates and times for each high school are below:

Friday, June 26, 8 p.m. – George Ranch High School at Legacy Stadium
Rainout: Saturday, June 27, 9:30 a.m.

Saturday, June 27, 8 p.m. – Fulshear High School at Legacy Stadium
Rainout: Sunday, June 28, 9:30 a.m.

Sunday, June 28, 8 p.m. – Foster High School at Legacy Stadium
Rainout: Monday, June 29, 9:30 a.m.

Monday, June 29, 8 p.m. – Lamar Consolidated High School at Legacy Stadium
Rainout: Tuesday, June 30, 9:30 a.m.

Tuesday, June 30, 8 p.m. – Terry High School at Legacy Stadium
Rainout: Wednesday, July 1, 9:30 a.m.

As a reminder, all Lamar CISD graduation ceremonies will be streamed LIVE on the District’s homepage and YouTube channel.

The District will continue to evaluate graduation plans to ensure we have social distancing strategies and proper safety measures in place to protect the community. Any adjustments that will need to be made to comply with the social distancing guidelines will be communicated with families.

Additionally, due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, many graduation specifics such as cap and gown distribution and number of guest tickets are still pending for some campuses. Lamar CISD high schools have custom gowns made for graduation ceremonies, so it is taking the distributors longer to deliver the gowns.

High school principals will follow up with families by Friday, May 29 with the latest information on cap and gown distribution and graduation tickets. As we approach the June ceremonies, the District will continue to share graduation details with the community.

As always, we appreciate your support and patience as we continue to navigate these unprecedented circumstances. For additional information and resources, please visit our COVID-19 Updates webpage here.
