Sick Leave Bank The purpose of the Sick Leave Bank is to provide additional sick leave days to members of the sick leave bank in the event of the extended absence for major physical disabilities due to extended catastrophic illness or injury. Sick leave bank days are also available to the District employee if such conditions are experienced by his/her immediate family member(s). What is a Catastrophic Illness? A catastrophic illness is an extended critical illness, injury, or temporary disability due to injury or illness that requires the services of a licensed medical practitioner for a prolonged period of time. Member of the Sick Leave Bank A member of the bank is a full time, benefit-eligible employee who agrees, in writing, to contribute one earned local sick leave day per year for three consecutive years. Donation Schedule Open enrollment for donation of a local sick leave day is held twice a year. The first enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year is September 1, 2008 through October 15, 2008, the second enrollment will be held January 1, 2009 through February 15, 2009.
