Money/Time Saving Pharmacy Tips:

1. Did you know there are three area retailers offering certain generic drugs for $4.00 per prescription?

H.E.B, Target and Wal-Mart pharmacies will accept new prescriptions for generic drugs. If you do not use your UHC prescription card you can buy the medication for $4.00 per prescription. You do not need to pay your regular UHC co-pay provided your generic drug is on their approved list. Be sure to contact the pharmacy or their web-site to determine if your medication falls under their approved $4.00 list.

2. UHC has a mail order prescription program. You may receive three months worth of your medication for the cost of two and a half months. This is a monthly savings of 17% per prescription to you the employee.

In order to use the mail order program you must have your physician write a new prescription and submit this to the mail order company. Once the prescription has been received you can request refills over the phone or on-line. A 90 day supply of your medication will be shipped directly to your home. This will save you time standing in a pharmacy line.

3. Before you leave your physician's office check to see if a generic drug is available. Generic drugs are usually less expensive then brand name drugs.

*Ask your pharmacist about “pill splitting”. “Pill Splitting” takes place when a pharmacist fills your prescription for one month in a pill form that is double your dosage. When it is time to take your medication you will only have to take half the pill. With "pill splitting" a consumer has two months worth of medication at the cost of one month's fill.

*** It is important to check with your doctor and pharmacist to be certain it is safe to "split" your particular medication, some medications cannot and should not be split.
