Grant Express surprises LCISD teachers with $161,045 in L.E.A.F. Grants!
Due to the tremendous support of local businesses, vendors and community members during L.E.A.F. events, such as Men Who Cook, Surf’s Up-Schools Out with the Triumphs, and sales of L.E.A.F.’s Premier Card, more than $161,000 in grants were awarded this year. “When we set our goals for the 2007 year, we aimed high and I’m thrilled that we reached our goal to help underwrite so many programs that will help our teachers and students,” said Bobbi Treacy, L.E.A.F. president. Bringing joy to teachers is what L.E.A.F. is all about, but there are always special moments. “We surprised so many teachers, but there are a few reactions I’ll always remember, said Janice Knight, LEAF executive director. “The front office at Velasquez coming out the front door to greet us, Jackson Principal Helen Morgan thinking someone had pulled the fire alarm and the tears of gratitude from a teacher at Pink.”
“Supporting L.E.A.F. provides my company, Fluor, the opportunity to put its commitment to children and education in action,” said Tom Zachman, who represents the company on the L.E.A.F. board. “The company enjoys supporting math and science projects that receive L.E.A.F. funding."
