Lamar CISD Music Groups Earn National Recognition through Foundation for Music Education

Sep 19, 2018 | Community Relations

Three Lamar CISD student music groups were recently selected for The Foundation for Music Education’s Mark of Excellence and Citation of Excellence programs. The following groups were recognized nationally:

  • Briscoe Junior High Honor Band, directed by Mark Keene, Mark of Excellence Commended Winner in the National Wind Band Honors
  • Briscoe Junior High Symphonic Band, directed by Amber Hendrix, Citation of Excellence Commended Winner
  • Fulshear High School Symphonic Winds Band, directed by Andrew Lee, Mark of Excellence Commended Winner in the National Wind Band Honors

The Mark of Excellence project seeks to recognize and award outstanding achievement in performance by high school and middle school bands, choirs and orchestras, and the Citation of Excellence project awards outstanding performance by non-varsity high school and middle school Texas bands.

The projects gather entries from throughout Texas and/or the United States and provides valuable feedback for all entrants. A unique competitive environment is created which allows ensembles to compare their performance quality to other outstanding groups from across the state and country.

For more information, visit The Foundation for Music Education website.
