2020-2021 School Year Update

Jun 24, 2020 | Community Relations

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) held a call with Texas superintendents yesterday to provide guidance on instruction for the 2020-2021 school year. Unfortunately, the agency was not able to provide guidance related to in-person instruction or social distancing. However, Lamar CISD did receive direction on remote learning possibilities from the state.

Based on the information from the state, if remote learning is provided by a school district, any parent could choose to have their student learn online for 2020-2021. For the 2020-2021 school year, students would still be required to “attend” 90 percent of their classes. This includes attendance taken through remote instruction.

At this time, the District’s Transition Team continues to work through several educational options that will support our families and the continuing education of our students. These options include traditional, remote learning and hybrid options. While we were hoping for more specific information from the state, we also realize this global pandemic is a rapidly evolving situation. Through continuing conversations with the state—along with your feedback from our parent survey—we anticipate sharing more detailed information with the Lamar CISD community in July. While there are still many questions regarding the 2020-2021 school year, your patience is appreciated as we remain thoughtful in our planning process.

Please continue to visit the COVID-19 Updates webpage for additional information and updates from the District. We will continue to provide updates as new guidance from TEA becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep the Lamar CISD community safe.
