Class of 2020 Update: Prom & Graduation

Apr 23, 2020 | Community Relations

As the COVID-19 situation in Fort Bend County and the Greater Houston area continues to evolve, Lamar CISD’s priority will always be to protect the health and well-being of our students, staff and community.

Following careful consideration and guidance from health officials, Lamar CISD has decided to cancel the 2020 proms scheduled for all five high schools and reschedule the graduation ceremony dates.

We understand that this has been a challenging time full of uncertainty for our seniors. While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused all of us to change our way of life, we know this isn’t how anyone imagined their senior year. Seniors—please know, we appreciate your accomplishments and we support you as you take your next steps in life.

In an effort to balance safety and traditional ceremonies, the 2020 graduation dates have been rescheduled for:

Friday, June 26, 2020 – Merrell Center

  • Fulshear High School (2:30 p.m.)
  • Foster High School (7:30 p.m.)

Saturday, June 27, 2020 – Merrell Center

  • Terry High School (10 a.m.)
  • Lamar Consolidated High School (2:30 p.m.)
  • George Ranch High School (7 p.m.)

All ceremonies will be streamed LIVE.

We know how hard our seniors have worked to get to this moment. This is a special time for our Class of 2020 graduates and no matter how—or when—we celebrate, Lamar CISD is committed to honoring their hard work.

As we approach the June graduation ceremonies, we will continue to share details regarding the allowable number of admitted guests, caps and gowns, and any adjustments that will need to be made. We are still in contact with state and local health officials and we are still required to comply with any updates or directives from the Governor or Texas Education Agency.

If, for any reason, the District is not able to hold traditional graduation ceremonies in June, we’re looking at virtual graduations as a back-up option and will continue to communicate any changes to the community.

We appreciate your ongoing support and patience as we continue to navigate the many details of this unprecedented situation. For additional information and resources, please visit our COVID-19 Updates webpage here.
