Alert

In a growing school system, the district’s attendance zones will inevitably change to accommodate the growth. As a hypergrowth district, we are experiencing significant enrollment increases in some areas. As a result, some schools are over capacity while others have available capacity. The Board may consider leveling plans to balance student enrollment across campuses and alleviate overcrowding.   The district’s process is to collect feedback from community stakeholders regarding attendance boundary options. We specifically look to include parents from the potentially impacted campuses/areas.

We appreciate everyone who provided input during the attendance boundary committee meetings and the leveling process.

The Lamar CISD Board of Trustees has approved new attendance zones that will impact Campbell, Carter, Dickinson, Hutchison, Velasquez, and Williams Elementary Schools, which will go into effect for the 2024-2025 school year.

COVID-19 and Social Distancing

Mar 15, 2020 | Community Relations

Lamar CISD is committed to the health and safety of our students and staff. In response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation in Fort Bend County, Lamar CISD recently decided to close all schools and facilities for the week of March 16-20, 2020. All extracurricular activities and travel through March 20, 2020 are also canceled.

This decision was made thoughtfully with input from local health authorities and community leaders, but we can all play a role in protecting our community and preventing the spread of COVID-19. In order for school closures to be effective in preventing the spread of COVID-19, health officials also encourage communities to utilize social distancing.

Social distancing, or avoiding close contact with other individuals to avoid catching the virus or passing it on, is considered one of the most important ways to prevent COVID-19 from spreading in communities.

This includes avoiding social gatherings and events—both large and small. While we understand social distancing can be difficult for families, especially children, this proactive approach has previously been effective in stopping or delaying community spread of infectious diseases.

If social activity continues to occur outside of school, it minimizes the intent of closing school to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Lamar CISD strongly encourages all of our families to participate in social distancing so that we can resume normal operations as soon as possible.

As a reminder, the CDC also recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Staying home when you are sick.
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work together to keep the Lamar CISD community safe.
