Counselor's Corner

Ms. Bradshaw, or as our younger huskies sometimes call her Ms. B., is in her 3rd year in LCISD and 3rd year at Hubenak as a school counselor.  She is a Houston native and graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Education in School Counseling.  In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

We are excited to welcome Mrs. Walcher to Hubenak this year, as our new counselor.  This is her 3rd year in the district and 6th year as a school counselor. She is from Los Angeles, California but now calls Richmond her home. She has shared that she has two beautiful little girls and an energetic husky that keeps her and her husband on their toes! She is looking forward to building relationships at Hubenak and making this the best school year yet!

A note from the counselors:

Hello Huskies!

We are extremely excited for the year ahead. Our role at Hubenak is to make sure that all students are being academically and socially successful at school. We work with students, teachers, and parents to facilitate a positive school experience and identify struggling learners. We use our experiences as a teacher, counselor, and parent to help ensure that students’ needs are being met. This year will be very different than previous years, as we all work towards regaining a sense of normalcy. However, as a team we are all stronger together! We will work together to help support the students, staff, and parents at Hubenak Elementary.

We are looking forward to continuing the use Character Counts 5.0, along with all LCISD campuses.  We will be conducting guidance lessons for all classes each month and holding small groups weekly.  We are very excited about this year and all the awesome opportunities for our students.

We are both certified Solution Focused Counselors, which allows us to focus on helping students find solutions, instead of dwelling on a problem. This technique is being applied with the staff as well as the campus moves towards being more Solution Focused and less problem focused.
