Terry Graduates Earn Top Achievers Award

Jul 09, 2020 | Community Relations

CollegeCommunityCareer (CCC) recently awarded Terry’s John Bentancur and Paola Garcia with CCC’s Top Achievers Award.

CollegeCommunityCareer fosters a college-going culture with low-income, first-generation high school students and families. CCC prepares students for college admission all the way through graduation, from a four-year university, based on four pillars: College Success, Leadership Development, Civic Engagement and Career Discovery.

CollegeCommunityCareer serves nine high schools across five districts throughout the greater Houston area and has partnered with Lamar CISD since 2012. CCC remains with our students from their sophomore year, through high school graduation and continues until they become an employed, civically-minded, college graduate.

This year’s Top Achiever Award recipients are both 2020 graduates from B.F Terry High School. Bentancur and Garcia attended classes consistently since their sophomore year, took full advantage of all summer and scholarship opportunities and made many sacrifices in order to prioritize their futures.

Both students were extremely prosperous in the college application and scholarship processes, which resulted in Bentancur receiving the George Foundation and Tucker Foundation scholarships, and Garcia receiving an academic scholarship from Texas A&M Kingsville. Both students plan to major in computer science.
