Week of November 27th

Published on 11/17/2017

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  Welcome Back!

Here is a preview of our week ahead:

Monday:  Math Major Test

Tuesday:  Writing Major Test

Wednesday:  Social Studies Major Test

Thursday:  Reading Major Test

Friday:  Science Major Test; Book Fair Preview

Major Points of Study:

Math:  Continue work with 2 digit times 2 digit; Division

Language:  Expository Writing; mechanics

Reading:  Nonfiction

*Please remember to look at and sign your child's folder every night.  Also, please check over their homework.  When checking, make sure they are actually working out all of the problems and getting the correct answer.  Many students have been turning in homework with just random answers.  This does not help them master the concepts.  I am really working on building the students' self pride and "want to" when it comes to scoring good grades.

Thanks for helping me with ensuring that your child has a productive year.

Have a great week!

Week of November 13th

Published on 11/9/2017

It was nice to see all of you "All-Star" parents at the report card conferences.  The students and I are looking forward to an even more successful 2nd nine-weeks.  Speaking of success...We will be having the 1st Success Assembly on Wednesday, November 15th, at 8:15 in the cafeteria.  I hope to see you there!

Here is what is happening this week:

Monday:  All fundraiser forms are due

Tuesday:  fall picture retakes

Wednesday:  8:15 Success Assembly

Thursday:  Buddy Class Meeting/Soldier Holiday Cards

Friday:  Last day of school before the Thanksgiving holidays

*Fact fluency test on Friday

No new Spelling list this week

**Please join PTO.  For just $10, the whole family can participate.  The PTO does SO MUCH for all of the students at Austin, and the funds allow that to happen.  (Also keep in mind that the $20 class fee is not part of joining PTO.  That money will be used for our 2 class parties, 4th grade Fun Day at the end of the year, and also purchased our basket for the school carnival.)

***Thank you for signing your child's folder every night.  I have noticed a huge difference in the quality of the students' work and their emerging understanding of the importance of organization.  I am really proud of the self responsibility the students are beginning to develop. :)

Have a wonderful week!

Week of November 6th

Published on 11/3/2017

We are now entering the 2nd week of the new nine-weeks.  A major topic that we are focusing on both inside and outside of the classroom is self-control.  We are discussing how rules, expectations, consequences, and self management are all related.  This is an easy concept for most of the students.  However, there are some who are having a hard time understanding this concept.

Please make sure to look at and sign your child's Homework/Behavior Folder each night.  If your child does not write down their assignments, please have them do so and discuss how they need to be doing that in the time that is allowed at school.  Organization is such a key step to success.

AR is off to a good start.  Many have already earned points toward their 15 point goal.  The new goal points started on Monday, October 30th.  So, when you are checking on their points, please keep in mind that the points earned the first nine-weeks do not apply to their goal for the 2nd nine-weeks.  (The points will accumulate for the end of the year total.)

Our 4th graders are presenting a Veterans' Day program on Tuesday night at 7:00.  They have been working so hard and sound fantastic.  I hope to see you there!

Don't forget that the students have Early Release at 11:30 on Thursday and Friday.

Parent report card conferences are this week.  I look forward to seeing you at our meeting.  If you can not attend, please let me know ASAP so that we can reschedule.

This week:

11/12 multiplication fact fluency  (11X11, 11X12, and 12X12 are the only new facts)

Spelling list over 2 and 3 syllable words

Library checkout and lesson on Wednesday

Turkey Trot in PE on Friday

Have an awesome week!

Week of October 30th

Published on 10/29/2017

This week starts the 2nd nine-weeks.  Your child's Homework Folder will look slightly different.  I have redesigned the behavior/work sheets.  Hopefully, you will find it easier/quicker to look at and sign nightly.

This nine-weeks AR goal is 15 points.  Please make sure your child is working towards this goal by reading every night.  The goal is 11 points more than the first nine-weeks.  They can't wait until the last week to earn all of their points.

Conference confirmation notes will be sent home with your child on Monday.  Please let me know if the chosen time is no longer good for you, so I can reschedule the conference.

This week:

Math-  9 multiplication facts (test Friday)

Spelling- singular and plural noun words (practice test on Wednesday/regular test on Friday)

Wednesday- College shirt/jersey

Have a wonderful week!
