Weekly Astronotes for February 7, 2018 - From Bud Whileyman
We have decided to spread Grandparents Day over 2 days to try to alleviate some of the congestion in the lunchroom. We are asking our grades 1, 3, and 4 to have lunch with their grandkids on Thursday, February 8th. We are asking that grandparents of grades Kinder, 2, and 5 come on Friday, February 9th. This should help us to avoid having long lunch lines and limited number of seats for our special grandparents. If you have a conflict and can only come on one of these days, please feel free to attend on the date that suits your schedule the best. We are all excited to see many grandparents in attendance. Our students love you and enjoy your being here.
February is Black History Month throughout the state of Texas. We will be highlighting the great accomplishments of many of our famous African-Americans during the month. Mrs. Brown, our music teacher, had the Ensemble Theater from Young Audiences of Houston here yesterday to present “I, Barbara Jordan” in honor of Black History Month. I have encouraged all teachers to highlight African-American people and events that helped to shape the history of our country during their social studies lessons. We look forward to learning many interesting historical facts about the roles of Black Americans in Texas and American history.
