Weekly Astronotes for January 4, 2017

Jan 04, 2017 | Bud Whileyman

We are all back and gearing up for the second half of the school year.  I hope everyone had a relaxing and restful holiday.  Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will begin after school tutorials beginning in the month of January.  Teachers will be sending letters home to parents whose children will need to attend these important instructional sessions.  The letters will have all of the details about dates and times.

Our state will be going to an A-F rating system for schools and districts beginning in August of 2018.  Details of this rating system will be coming out throughout the year.  Schools will be given sample ratings this year to help them better understand how the system will work. There will be 4 domains in which schools will be given a grade.  Eventually a 5th domain will be added and an overall grade for the school will also be given. The final domain has yet to be completed so no overall rating will be given in the preliminary results. It is going to be a very complicated system that determines grades in some of the domains.  Once the state finalizes everything we will try to simplify how the grades are determined.  Stay tuned!!!
