Astronotes for May 27, 2015

May 27, 2015 | Bud Whileyman

I enjoy watching the excitement of the students during the many events during the month of May.  Field Day turned out to be a big success as the weather cooperated and made it pleasant to be outside.  Kudos to Mrs. Cantu for her hard work and also taking a pie in the face to start that morning.  Thanks to all the volunteers and parents that helped everything run smoothly.

Our choir sings the National Anthem at the Skeeters game this Thursday.  We hope for a good turnout to support them and the Skeeters. We also have an LCTA banquet on Thursday that I will be attending to honor our teacher and paraprofessional of the year.

STAAR scores will be going home today for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  Each student will get an individual sheet giving detailed information about how they did in each subject area.  The math tests will only have a raw score and will not be designated as pass/fail.  Since the math curriculum has been more rigorous this year the state will not set a passing standard until next September.  If you have any questions about your child’s test results please contact the school.

Finally, The Commissioner of Education has sent out a statement saying that the school districts that missed school on Tuesday because of the inclement weather will not have to make up that day.  Each district will make their own decision, but are not required to attend any extra days.
