Astronotes for October 15, 2014

Oct 14, 2014 | Bud Whileyman

The Texas Education Agency has approved a waiver for the student absence that occurred at Austin during the power outage of August 29, 2014. The day will be marked as a day of non-instruction and will not count for ADA (Average Daily Attendance).  This means that our students will have one less day counted for days present.  There will be no absence marked for any student so it will not have any effect on perfect attendance recognition and there will be no need for any makeup days.  I hope this helps clarify any misunderstandings about this unusual situation.

Our 9-weeks reading assessment will be this Thursday for grades 3-5.  This will be one of at least 3 major grades.  This year major grades will count ½ of the student’s grade so it is important for them to do their very best.

This Friday will be “Pink Out” day at Austin.  All students and staff are encouraged to wear pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I want to remind parents of the dress code stating that there should be no extremes in hair styles such as: psychedelic colors, lines, letters or designs shaved in the head.  If you have a question about this please check the Elementary Handbook or contact the school.  We would appreciate your cooperation in making sure your child follows these rules.

Lamar Fillies are hosting a dance clinic, if you would like a registration form and more info click here:  fall 2014 registration flier
