Valedictorians for the Class of 2012

Terry High School
Samantha Chapa is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2012 at Terry High School. The daughter of Jesse and Maria Elena Chapa, she will complete her high school career with a grade point average of 110.2439.
She plans to attend Rice University and major in mechanical engineering and plans to create her own engineering firm in Houston. She also wants to serve as a role model for younger girls so that they know that they can accomplish anything in life that they want.
While at Terry, Chapa was active in Choir, Tennis, Interact, Technology Student Association and National Honor Society. She is a National Hispanic Scholar, an Ayn Rand Institute semifinalist, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Chapa was also a Technology Student Association National Finalist.
She received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship, the TASC Scholarship She hopes her fellow Rangers will always do their best in whatever they attempt and that nothing is impossible when you have a dream and determination.
She said her best memories in high school were hanging out with friends and relaxing.
Lamar Consolidated High School
Alexandra Thom is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2012 at Lamar Consolidated High School. The daughter of David and Vicki Thom, she will complete her high school career with a grade point average of 109.6833.
She plans to attend Rice University, but has not chosen a major. She plans to find a career that is both “meaningful and joyful.” Her advice to her fellow Mustangs is to not procrastinate in college.
While at Lamar, Thom was active in National Honor Society, NEMOS (Science Club) and the Mighty Mustang Band.
She said her best memories from high school are playing for four years in the Lamar Band.
Foster High
Stephanie Tsai is the Valedictorian for the Class of 2012 at Foster High School. The daughter of Kai and Annabelle Tsai, she will complete her high school career with a 116.5393 grade point average.
She plans to attend Princeton University and major in Molecular Biology, Chemistry and Musical Performance. She plans to become a cardio-thoracic surgeon, with long-term goal opening a medical clinic with her siblings and provide medical services to those in need. She also wants to participate in medical research.
While at Foster, Tsai was active in Science Olympiad, Interact, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), National Honor Society (NHS), Congressional Youth Advisory Council (CYAC), Band and Drumline, United States Academic Decathlon and French Club.
She is a National Merit Finalist, a National AP Scholar, and earned the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship and the ECONRG Scholarship. She attended the American Legion Auxiliary Texas Bluebonnet Girls State, is a member of the 2012 Texas Association of Secondary School Principals All-State Academic Team Member, finished 4th Place in Epidemiology at the HOSA National Conference, earned a Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, and was a Science Olympiad State Medalist and an Academic Decathlon State Medalist.
An accomplished pianist, Tsai performed at Carnegie Hall, took 1st Place at Houston Young Artists’ Piano Concerto Competition and performed with Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra.
Her advice to her fellow Falcons is to never be afraid to dream big. With perseverance and determination, anything can be overcome.
Tsai she’d never forget the guidance and encouragement of her teachers, and will always cherish the lasting friendships she made at Foster.
