CTE > Articulated CreditArticulated Credit Courses
The Articulated Credit courses prepare students for high-demand technical careers by offering a focused, sequenced program of secondary and post-secondary study consisting of a four-year high school graduation plan based on the Recommended High School Program and a two-year associate of applied science (AAS) degree plan.
Articulated Credit programs combine the academic courses needed for success in college AND technical courses that begin to prepare students for a career. Students in a Articulated Credit program get an early start in accumulating college credits. They can earn college credit for high school technical courses that have been agreed upon by college and Lamar CISD. Articulated Credit courses can save students time and money once they begin attending the two-year college of their choice.
What is Articulated Credit?
Articulated credit courses are college-level technical courses that allow high school students to qualify for college credit statewide through the Advanced Technical Credit Program (ATC) or through local agreements. Courses are taught by high school teachers. ATC teachers receive TEA-required training.
Typically, courses are open to students in grades 10-12 who are in good academic standing. Students may have to pass a prerequisite course.
A college awards credit for an articulated course after the student meets specific criteria, such as earning a “B” or better in the course, and after the student enrolls in the college.
Articulated courses are free. Students may have to pay a small fee to have the college credit hours on their transcript.
ATC courses apply primarily to the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Credit only applies if a student can use the course in a related college plan and transfer of courses to universities may be limited.
