Parent Guide for English Learners—English and Spanish versions

"The Parent Guide for English Learners" gives families the information they need know for their children who are English language learners. This informative guide is available in English and in Spanish. 

U.S. Department of Education- White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics

The Guide provides recommended steps for the college enrollment process, helpful tips on filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and key financial aid resources available to better support Hispanics.

Information for families on Title III and ESL services.  

Language Proficiency Assessment Committee

The LPAC Framework integrates State and Title III of Public Law 107-110 (Elementary and Secondary Education Act) requirements regarding the: identification and placement;parental approval;annual review; and assessment of English language learners as they attain language and academic proficiency.

Want your kids to see the bigger picture? Then this website is just for you. Sign up for their free weekly e-mail that will give you clever ideas that promote appreciation towards film, culture and family time.

An old school favorite, Sesame Street online offers games, videos and musical favorites that will educate and entertain your child.

A bilingual website with educational resources for adults and your college bound student.

Reading Rockets

This website is created not only for parents, but also for educators as well. The website is directed to teaching kids how to read and helping out those who struggle.

George Memorial Library

Our local library has bilingual books for adults and children. If your child needs help with homework, check out their link on the "Homework Tutoring" tab for live homework help from expert tutors and other helpful links.

Colorin Colorado

As a parent, there are many ways that you can help your child succeed every single day! These bilingual parent resources offer tips on helping your child learn to read, succeed in school, and learn a new language. They also provide information about the U.S. school system and share ideas on how to build a relationship with your child’s teacher and school. In addition, you can find fun reading tips and games, bilingual booklists, ideas for using the public library, and videos of children’s authors, illustrators, and musicians. Resources are organized by topic.

Educational Entertainment

Entertaining your child in an educational way shouldn't be hard. Here are some fun and even free entertainment options that will be fun and educating for you and your family.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

With satellite locations in Sugar Land and at Brazos Bend State Park, take your family out to explore the wonders of the world and at the same time ignite your child's imagination!

Houston Zoo

With the new opening of their African Forest and new baby animals, take your kids to see the world's animals for some family fun. Plus, admission is free on the first Tuesday of every month after 2 p.m. Visit their website for more details and information.

Miller Outdoor Theatre

The Miller Outdoor Theatre has cultural and artistic programs for the entire family free of cost. Enjoy the outdoors and the excellent productions that are put on by some of the best theatre companies in the business. Check out their events calendar for weekday and weekend activies.

Discovery Green Park

This wonderful park has story time, concerts, and even exercise sessions planned out for families. Sign up for their weekly e-blast for news and activities.
