Welcome to Wessendorff 2016

Published on 8/19/2016

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to J J Wessendorff Middle School (JWMS). I am looking forward to a great year!

The sixth grade math curriculum is quite rigorous. To ensure the success of ALL students, the math department, will work closely with the students and each other throughout the school year. We will spend a good deal of time learning, practicing and applying our Problem Solving Model – EPSEE – Explore, P – Plan, S – Solve and E – Examine. Your child will apply the model throughout the upcoming year. The math department gives weekly quizzes and common major exams, including a district-wide exam at the end of each six week grading period.

ALL students have been provided with an Agenda to assist them in completing their assignments in a timely manner. They will be instructed to record their assignments and projects in their agendas on a daily basis. Please ask your child to show you his/her agenda on a regular basis.

In order to provide an accurate source of team/school news, JWMS regularly updates information on the school webpage, which can be found at the schools section of the LCISD website (www.lcisd.org). Departments/teachers may place objectives and/or reminders at the teacher page section of the JWMS website. Items will also be found at the Edmodo website (https://www.edmodo.com); which, your child will join at school.

Homework will be assigned most days. On the day an assignment is due, it will be checked for: number of problems attempted, number correct and effort. If said assignment is not done or is for the most part incomplete the student may lose points from their homework grade.

All JWMS students are required to adhere to the rules and regulations specified in the Lamar CISD Handbook (found on the website). The Math Department follows the grading guidelines for secondary students regarding late assignments and major exams.

Our expectations are high. The learning environment for your child is a combination of support both from home and school. I look forward to this joint venture. Together we can make a difference!
