January is School Board Recognition Month

Jan 11, 2018 | Community Relations

Governor Greg Abbot has proclaimed January to be School Board Recognition Month and Lamar CISD is joining other districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools.

Abbot’s proclamation said “School boards play a vital role in our effort to develop education in the Lone Star State as they work with parents, education professionals and community members to create successful learning environments.”

Lamar CISD’s School Trustees are President James Steenbergen, Vice President Kathryn Kaminski, Secretary Kay Danziger, Mandi Bronsell, Dr. Tyson Harrell, Joe Hubenak and Melisa Roberts.

“School board members serve countless unpaid hours working to make public education the best it can be for every child in our community,” said Lamar CISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Randle. “In a challenging and changing environment, they develop policies and make tough decisions on complex issues that affect the entire community and the lives of individual students.”

The trustees provide oversight for Lamar CISD’s $333 million budget, more than 31,000 students in grades pre-kindergarten through high school, more than 4,500 employees, 44 campuses and a construction program to deal with population growth in the district.

“Preparing today’s students to be productive citizens and the leaders of tomorrow is a tremendous task” Randle said. “These dedicated individuals deserve much recognition and thanks for their commitment to our kids and our community.”
