HAPPY HOLIDAYS from our Hawk Family to yours!

Tomorrow is the end of our first semester. Students do not need to bring backpacks, but might want to bring a drawstring or small bag with a composition book and pencil. Students will be released at 12:15.

We will also hold our annual spelling bee tomorrow morning beginning at 8:40 a.m. Students qualified through their ELA class. Parents of participants are welcome to join us in the gym for the bee. The winner will represent Wertheimer in the area spelling bee in January. Good luck to all participants!

Lunch will not be served tomorrow, but students may bring money because they will have the opportunity to purchase candy and chips for $1 each.

Parents of morning car riders, we want to remind you that our doors open at 7:30 a.m. daily. Lately we have had numerous students arrive before that time. We do not have staff scheduled before 7:30, so there is no supervision. Doors will be unlocked each day at 7:30 a.m., no earlier. We do not want students sitting outside, especially if it is cold or raining. Therefore, if you have been consistently dropping off your child early, please make alternative transportation arrangements.

Parents, there is only one day left to complete Wertheimer’s Campus Climate Survey and we need your feedback. Please take a few minutes to let us know what you think. The survey closes tomorrow, December 22. Just Click the link at the top of Wertheimer’s webpage. All results will be posted online for you to review.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released the 2016-2017 School Report cards (SRC). The SRC combines accountability ratings, data from the Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR), and financial information to give a broad view of campus performance. The SRC is intended specifically to inform parents and guardians about a school’s individual characteristics and its academic performance. Wertheimer Middle School’s SRC is attached to this newsletter and can also be found on our school website. Click Here for a direct link to the site. Additionally, a hard copy is at the school.

Nomination forms for GT program identification for the 2018-2019 school year are due to the front office by December 22, 2017. Testing will begin in January and parents will be notified of the identification results by the first week in May.  Students who are currently in the secondary GT program do not need to be nominated and re-tested for the following school year.

The next district GTPAC meeting will be held on January 9, 2018 in the Lamar Junior High cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. (Additional meeting dates for the year are March 6 and May 8.) The GT identification meeting will take place on March 22 in the Lamar Junior High cafeteria at 6:00 p.m.  Parents can always find GT information and meeting dates on our webpage under the Program tab or by clicking here.

Please contact our GT Facilitator, Shirley Schmidt, (, if you have any questions.

Information on the district’s Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) can be found on the district’s website under Departments and Special Programs (click here).
