Teacher Profile

Ms. Lisa Washington
English Teacher Hs

Hello!  My name is Lisa Washington, and I will be your child’s English teacher this 2016-2017 school year.  I have been teaching high school English for the past 7 years. Prior to that, I worked as a Director of School Admissions, and a sales manager in the hotel industry.

My degrees include a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, a Master’s Degree in Business, and I’m currently working on a second Master’s in Counseling.  I love working with students to help them nurture their strengths and discover their talents.

As an educator, my philosophy involves helping my students develop life skills, while teaching content.  I believe that critical thinking, reading, writing and communicating are important in exercising these skills, and that communication is the key to success, productivity and peace.  I also believe that literature is a wonderful way for students to learn about and reflect on history, current events, their own beliefs, and how they fit into the environment around them.  Aside from English content, I believe that fostering a foundation in study and decision-making skills, awareness of choice, professionalism, self-esteem and expression, and awareness of one’s own potential are just as important.  All of these behaviors will help students to succeed in life, no matter what industry, job, or social setting they encounter, the need for, and benefit of, these skills and abilities will exist.

My commitment as an educator is to provide your child with a nurturing and challenging educational environment that will ensure his/her academic success.  In order to do this, I have set high expectations and requirements for this class.  Students will be required to read, take notes, conduct research, participate in class activities, and study a variety of materials for homework.

I am aware that I cannot do my job well without your help, so it is important that we have your support and we all work as a team. Please sign below indicating that you agree to become my partner in your child’s education, and have him/her bring it back to class.

I am always available for discussion or to answer questions via email: lwashington@lcisd.org.  Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to working with you and your child for a fantastic and productive year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Washington
