LCISD seeks participants for Health Advisory Council

Research shows that healthy children do better in school - from attendance and behavior to academics and overall performance. The Lamar CISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) works with the district to help school communities support good health and academic achievement.

SHAC is a state-mandated advisory council appointed by the Lamar CISD Board of Trustees. It is made up of parents, community members, students, and school staff working together to improve the health of all students and families through coordinated school health programs.

 Lamar CISD is seeking interested parents and community members to participate on SHAC. SHAC meets four times each year to discuss a variety of topics relating to coordinated school health. The new member application and additional information on the Lamar CISD SHAC can be found on the Lamar CISD website.

The areas of discussion center around the eight components of coordinated school health:

  • Family and community involvement

  • Nutrition services

  • Physical education

  • Health education

  • Counseling, psychological & social services

  • Health services

  • Healthy school environment

  • Health promotion for school staff

 The remaining 2014-2015 SHAC meetings will be  Nov. 11, 2014, and Feb. 10, 2015 andApril 14, 2015. All meetings are from 9 - 11 a.m. in the Lamar CISD Administration Building.
