What is The Leader in Me?

Leader in Me Apple. Smalljpg
The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model that produces results such as higher academic achievement, fewer discipline problems, and increased engagement among teachers and parents. By teaching 21st century leadership and life skills to students, The Leader in Me Process creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.

It began in 1999 at A.B. Combs Elementary in North Carolina. Principal Muriel Summers asked parents and business leaders what they wanted in their schools. The feedback was clear: our schools should not merely be concerned with improving test scores, but should provide opportunities for students to develop their full potential and become well-rounded, productive community members. She and her staff taught the 7 Habits not as a curriculum, but in a ubiquitous fashion, integrating them into the curriculum, traditions, systems, and culture of A.B. Combs.

As of today, there are 1,954 schools around the world using The Leader in Me Process to grow the next generation of leaders. Meyer Elementary is one of just a couple of schools in Fort Bend County using The Leader in Me Process.

The 7 Habits of Happy Kids

Habit 1: Be Proactive - I'm in Charge of Me!

Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind - Set goals and make a Plan.

Habit 3: Put First Things First - Work First and then Play!

Habit 4: Think Win-Win - Everyone Can Win!

Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood - Listen Before You Speak.

Habit 6: Synergize - Together is Better!

Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw - Balance is Best!

Greatness Gatherings

Greatness Gatherings are assemblies held once every six weeks to recognize one student from each grade level who has used one of the 7 Habits in their activities at school or home. Students nominate themselves and describe how they used the habit. Classes listen to their stories and decide who best represents that habit.

On Greatness Gathering days students are given the choice of either dressing in uniform or dressing as if they are going on a job interview. We call this "Dress for Success!" The way we appear on the outside can boost our self confidence and influence our successes in life.

Friends and family are always welcome to attend!

Synergy Assemblies

Synergy Assemblies are similar to the pep rallies that you may have attended in high school! They are very high energy assemblies in which we celebrate our students for reaching their goals with lots of cheering, dancing, and music.

During Synergy Assemblies we gather as a school in the gym to celebrate successes and monitor data. The data we track includes attendance, behavior, AR points, letters, sounds, and sight words. Classes that achieve their goals for the three week period are rewarded with cheering and extra recess.

Friends and family are always welcome to attend!
