Fourth-grade students from Lamar CISD’s Jackson Elementary will always “Remember the Alamo” after a recent trip to San Antonio.
Students learned about Texas history by watching the IMAX film “Alamo: The Price of Freedom.” The 45-minute film took them on a journey back in time to witness the historic Battle of the Alamo. After the film, the Jets toured the Alamo, where Texas history truly came alive for our students. What a great way to celebrate Texas Independence Day!
Teachers Allyson Spencer, Julia Bridges and Ana Marie Hix received a $2,700 grant from the Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (L.E.A.F.) to take their students on a trip that brought Texas history to life.
“Our students were able to experience Texas history in a way that books just can’t do,” Spencer said.
Proceeds from fund-raisers such as “Surf’s Up, School’s Out with the Triumphs,” presented this year by OakBend Medical Center, help underwrite these types of grants for Lamar CISD teachers and students.
