Public input sought for Arredondo Elementary zoning

Jan 20, 2015 | Community Relations

John M. Arredondo Elementary School is opening this fall and the new attendance zone may impact Beasley, Hutchison, Meyer and Thomas elementary schools for the 2015-2016 school year. The Lamar CISD Attendance Boundary Committee (ABC)—made up of community members—will make its zoning recommendation to the Lamar CISD Board of Trustees for new attendance boundaries.

The ABC is seeking input from families living in the affected areas before it makes its final recommendation to the Trustees. A public input meeting will be held Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Graeber Auditorium at Terry High School, located at 5500 Avenue N in Rosenberg.

The input will help the ABC finalize its recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The recommendations will be based on the latest demographic projections, facility capacity, student enrollment numbers and optimal utilization of existing facilities.

The ABC also looked closely at the current and projected trends, trying to alleviate overcrowding, while minimizing the movement of students from existing zones.
