Foster High production reaches new heights

Foster High School’s production of “In the Heights” received seven nominations for the Tommy Tune Awards, including Best Musical. 

Foster students will perform a musical number from their show April 19 as part of the Tommy Tune Awards Show.

This is the first Lamar CISD production to be nominated for Best Musical. 

Of the 100 or so school applicants, 45 schools were selected to be screened. Foster’s nomination makes it one of the top 8 shows in the Greater Houston area. The show received nominations for:

• Best Musical;
• Best Direction;
• Best Costume Design;
• Best Leading Actress, Dakotah Boone;
• Best Leading Actor, Muhammed Yunus;
• Best Supporting Actor, Kyra Reue-Collins; and
• Best Scenic Design.

Lamar Consolidated High received a nomination for Best Stage Crew and Technical Execution.

Created by Theatre Under the Stars in 2002, the Tommy Tune Awards recognize and reward excellence in the production of musical theatre by high school students and their teachers.
