After being the crossing guard for a few days last week, I will gladly give up the duties to Mr. Jerry.  It can get somewhat hectic in the morning right before the tardy bell rings.  Traffic tends to back up all the way onto Morton League in one direction and past the new subdivision in the other direction.  Cars making a left turn into the pickup area get backed up unless cars from the other direction alternate entry into the drive.  The biggest concern other than inconvenience is the ability of emergency vehicles to make it through the traffic to their destination.  We have talked with district officials and the sheriff’s department about how we can alleviate this problem of all the vehicles on the street that inhibit traffic flow.  One suggestion that we are considering is to have the car drop off area moved to the side of the building where the buses currently unload.  The bus drop off would then be in the front of the building.  Cars would enter the drive currently used by buses and circle around in the back parking lot to drop off on the side of the building by the cafeteria and gym.  There would have to be 2-way traffic going in and coming out of this drive.  A study is currently being done to see what the feasibility of this change would be.  This change would allow for fewer if any vehicles to be waiting on Pitts Rd. to enter the drop off area.  We will keep you posted if and when any changes take place.  In the meantime try to be a courteous driver and have patience with the morning congestion.
