Astronotes for August 27, 2014

Welcome back to school!  Enrollment at Austin Elementary was 564 students on the first day.  That number will increase as more students register.  We are still better off than some of the elementary schools in the district with over 1000 students and growing.  Hopefully all went smooth for your children on the first day of school.

I would like to remind everyone who drops off their students in the morning or picks them up in the afternoon to pull all the way to the end of the pickup area when arriving. This allows us to load or unload many students at one time and helps speed the flow of traffic so that everyone can get in or out quickly.  If you park in the parking lot to pick up your students please wait for the cars to stop before trying to cross the drive.  We don’t want anyone to be hit and we would like to keep the traffic moving.  Finally, we will not allow the students to cross the drive without being escorted by an adult.  So you must either come across to pick them up or one of the staff will bring them to you.  Thanks for your cooperation in making these times of day safer for our children.

One final reminder to not talk on your cell phone in the school zone.  This is a violation of the law and many times officers will be stationed in the area looking for violators.  We ask that you not use your cell phone in the pickup line while moving.  If you need to call you can pull in the parking lot to have a conversation.
