Monster Exchange

Monster Exchange is an activity designed to encourage the development of reading and writing skills. Two classes create a monster (individually, in small groups, or as a whole class) and then write a description of their creation. The descriptions are exchanged and each class tries to re-create the monster(s) based solely on the description(s). The classes then connect via videoconference to compare their re-created monsters with the original(s) sharing similarities, differences, and how the monster descriptions were written and interpreted.

Pen Pals

Video conferences are an opportunity to get the kids together. Please use it as another way to facilitate learning. You may want to share a favorite book, share some riddles, play a jeopardy game based on a common unit of study, share book reports/commercials, sing a song, collect and compare data about students (eye color, bus riders, mustard or mayonnaise on hotdogs), a guess who game…anything else you can think of that meets the instructional needs of your students.
