Lamar
Jr. High is a student-centered school dedicated to every student's opportunity
to dream. The faculty and staff believe that education is a joint effort
among educators, students, and parents. Parents are strongly encouraged
to become involved in their children's academic and extra-curricular activities.
Lamar's VIPS (Volunteers In Public School), the Parent Advisory Committee,
and the site-based decision team utilize the talents of parents and encourage
parents' input into a variety of school related activities.
Classes
are ability-grouped with an emphasis placed on higher-order thinking skills.
The school day includes seven 50-minute periods and a 25-minute advisory
period, which is used for tutoring, study hall, and activities.
