Special Programs

TutoringTutoring is available before, during, and after school in all academic subject areas.  Students are required to have a morning pass to enter the building before normal school hours.

 

Summer School -   Academic summer school programs to improve the  achievement level of at-risk students.

Plato Learning Lab - Computer-assisted instruction for students not mastering TAKS objectives in reading and math.

 

UIL (University Interscholastic League)  - Academic tournaments and contests.

 

Duke Talent Search  - Encourages students to achieve excellence in academics and to pursue college and university programs.  Allows recognized 7th graders the opportunity of taking the SAT I test.

 

National Junior Honor Society - Recognizes students who excel academically, participate in community service and exemplify exceptional responsibility at school. (See Clubs and Organizations)

 

Year-End Awards Assembly -  An evening program in May that recognizes outstanding attendance and academic excellence during the year.

The Gator Grammys - An annual (usually) evening performance showcasing student talent and humor.

 

Gifted/Talented Program - Students with extraordinary ability in a specific subject area are tested and admitted, based on the test results and parent approval, into the Gifted/Talented Program.  These students are put on a "fast track" and given the option of taking Pre-AP courses at George that lead to Advanced Placement courses in high school.  Currently, George is a pilot school for an independent study project called Performance Standards .  This project is a requirement of all 8th grade G/T students.  Students are given the option of choosing a Math, Social Studies, Science or Language Arts-based project to explore and research.

 

GJHS Scholarship - The George staff sponsors a $500 college scholarship, given annually to a graduating B. F. Terry High School student who attended George in 7th and 8th grades.  We love our students, both past and current.
