Overviews
Spanish
1 serves as an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. Basic listening, speaking, reading,
viewing and sharing skills are developed.
Communication skills are the primary focus of this course. At the end of Level 1, students will be
able to express themselves and engage in simple conversations in Spanish within
the limits of their knowledge of vocabulary and
structure.
Spanish 3 H students will continue to engage in listening,
oral and written assignments including everyday situations and solving daily
problems. Students will also acquire new vocabulary and grammar
tenses. Grammar will be covered mainly through application of the spoken
language. Writing, culture and the geography of Spanish-speaking countries
will be used to reinforce the spoken language.
Spanish
IV AP is intended for students who wish to develop proficiency and integrate
their language skills, using authentic materials and sources. Students who enroll should already have a
basic knowledge of the language and cultures of Spanish-speaking people and
should have attained a reasonable proficiency in using the language.
The
AP Spanish Language course should help prepare students to demonstrate
their level of Spanish proficiency across three communicative modes
(Interpersonal [interactive communications], Interpretive [receptive
communication], and Presentational [productive communication]), and the 5 goal
areas outlined in the Standards for
Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century (Communication, Cultures,
Connections, Comparisons, and Communities). This course is meant to be comparable to
fifth and sixth semester (or the equivalent) college and university courses that
focus on speaking and writing in the target language at an advanced
level.
