Instructional
programs at Meyer meet the needs of children at all ability levels. Gifted
and talented students are served in self-contained cluster classes. Children
of all levels are scheduled daily in the computer lab for computer-assisted
instruction in reading and mathematics. A special life-skills unit serves
moderately to severely handicapped students. Meyer's special education
program consists of three programs in addition to the life-skills unit:
inclusion, resource, and content mastery.
Curriculum
for each grade level is developed from the Texas Essential Knowledge and
Skills. Music, art, and physical education instruction for all students
is provided by specialists in those areas. Meyer's outstanding teaching
staff actively participate in district-level professional activities and
staff development.
A
school-wide counseling program is provided to all students. Students receive
additional guidance from support groups, IALAC (I Am Lovable And Capable)
clubs, and individual counseling sessions.
Teachers
and students are involved in a wide variety of activities including spelling
bees, Math Club, visits from the Terry High School PALS, tutorials, choir,
Accelerated Reader, field day, and computer lab.
Students
and teachers celebrate success on a regular basis as a way of motivating
students and recognizing their academic progress throughout the year.
Parents
are actively involved at Meyer. A strong PTO supports the instructional
program and contributes to the positive climate of the campus. Their financial
contributions pay for reading-oriented T-shirts, student field trips,
staff appreciation celebrations, and many other enhancements to our school.
Parent volunteers can be seen throughout the building helping the staff
in many ways. Parents, students, and staff enjoy coming together for Family
Math Night, and Family Bingo sessions. We welcome parent input and involvement
in all areas.
