A. W. Jackson Elementary
is committed to promoting a positive learning climate that will
foster life-long learning, success, and literacy for every student. The
staff provides a structured, nurturing environment that addresses the
needs of the whole child. Our reading and math program provides over 90
minutes of daily instructional time. The master schedule is designed with
an instructional focus in the core curriculum.
To address multi-culture issues
among the students, special activities are planned around such
events as Black History Month, Cinco de Mayo, etc. A. W. Jackson Elementary also
promotes and encourages students to pursue their many talents through
such events as the Houston Live Stock Show Rodeo Art Contest, Rising Star,
various local poster contests, Field Day athletic events, Red Ribbon week
activities, and UIL Competition.
A. W. Jackson Elementary has an active PTO that
is involved in fundraising projects, co-curricular activities, and manpower assistance.
The Parent Volunteer Program provides assistance to staff and students where
needed. Parents also participate in the school's Site-Based Decision Making Team, and
the Parent Advisory Committee. Parents are kept abreast of school news and events
through the "Jet Liner Express", a weekly publication written by the principal
in English and Spanish.
Our school library provides
internet access for students as does our computer lab. To supplement
our reading program, we also provide the Accelerated Reader
Program. Students also have access to a computerized TAKS
tutorial program. Kindergarten students benefit from the early literacy Waterford
program housed in each kindergarten and first grade classroom.
