I hope you all enjoyed a restful break, here in the art room we are gearing up for a jam packed January and February.  The whole School will be doing a unit on the Famous Artist Vincent Van Gogh.

The week of January 25th -29th we will have an exhibit of three large Van Gogh paintings, along with information about the artists.  Take a moment to come in that week and check it out! 

Along with the other projects students are working on, they will learn about Van Gogh through independent centers that will include visiting websites, creating portraits and painting with texture to experience a Van Gogh work of art. 

Each grade level will also create a project in the style of Van Gogh, learning how he used color, brush techniques, textures to create beautiful portraits, still lifes and landscapes.  His most famous being of course, Starry Night!    

On another note, Art Club will be starting January 21st !  Art Club is open to anyone in 4th and 5th grade who is serously interested in doing more art after school.  I only have 25 slots available, so the first 25 signed permission slips I have back will be my group. 

We meet three times a month, and a schedule will be sent home the first meeting.  There is also a $15.00 materials fee for the club, as it is after school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email at kdowney@lcisd.org
