DUKE Talent Search in Full Swing

Congratulations to those of you that are in the top 5% of students in your grade level!

If you or your child has been nominated for the 4th/5th grade Duke TIP program, please read your brochure and application thoroughly (or visit the website www.tip.duke.edu/45gts).  Every year I have parents contact me regarding my experience with the program, seeking guidance.  I wanted to share an email I received recently from a parent here at Campbell.

"Thanks for sending us the Duke TIP information for Christian. I wanted to let you know that I enrolled him and will be taking advantage of the program.  We have had a great experience so far with Duke TIP through Vincent.  Vincent took the ACT last year in 7th grade and qualified for the Center level summer program. He went to Trinity University this last summer for 3 weeks and took Computer Programming for Web Applications and will be going to the Duke West Campus this summer for 3 weeks.  Once you qualify, a student has the opportunity to spend 4 summers at a Duke summer program. Vincent had a great experience last summer and is really looking forward to going again this summer!  Just wanted to pass on some feedback from one of your students who had been through the upper level program.  Thanks!"    Maria Metoyer

Registration deadline is March 22, 2010

GT Program Nominations – due December 18th

To nominate a student for the 2009-2010 G/T Program, you need to fill out a yellow nomination form.  This form is available in the office, through your child’s teacher, or on the GT Program link online.   The last date to turn in G/T Nomination forms is December 18, 2009 .   Kindergarten students do not need to be nominated, as every student is considered for the program.   First through 4th grade students already identified as Gifted and Talented do not need to be reassessed.   Fifth graders interested in participating in the 6th grade G/T Program DO need to be nominated.

The G/T Program serves students who have an educational need for specialized services.  The program includes placement with a classroom teacher trained in gifted education and pull-out classes with the G/T Facilitator.

Nomination forms for the GT Program must be received by December 18, 2009 .
