A Closer Look at Campbell
New beginnings . . . Campbell Elementary opened in the Fall of 2000. It was exciting for all concerned, with a new building, new students, new staff, new challenges and opportunities. During our first year, we achieved exemplary status. The school has now grown to over 800 students! The entire staff at Campbell Elementary continues to work together to meet each student’s needs and to provide all students with opportunities to develop knowledge skills as they experience growth in academic, social, emotional and physical areas.
Parental invovlement . . . Parental and community involvement supports the school’s
program and contributes significantly to the success and the spirit of the
school.
The involvement of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) enables our campus to function at an
exceptionally high level of efficiency.
Throughout the year, the PTA works to build school spirit and
cohesiveness through fundraising, organizing family events and activities, and
providing teachers and staff with materials, ideas and support. Volunteer involvement in the library,
workroom, classrooms, as well as with special projects, is a clear reflection of
our connection between school and community. The PTA also publishes a monthly
newsletter that goes home with students so that parents can be kept apprised of
school activities and events. The PTA also sponsors the program, “My Mentor and Me”, to students who need extra encouragement and mentoring.
Enrichment . . .
Campbell, in collaboration with the Site-Based Decision Making Team, explored the Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM), which was developed by Joseph Renzulli. This model addresses individual levels of student instructional readiness, learning styles and diverse interests. After examining this model, each summer staff members from Campbell journey to “Confratute” in Storrs, Connecticut for training. The SEM team of teachers and administrators meet regularly throughout the year to plan and implement various aspects of the SEM into the curriculum for grades K-5. Parents support their children through mentoring or by participating in the program as enrichment cluster leaders. Instruction at Campbell is also enriched with many exceptional learning opportunities. Students are encouraged to participate in programs such as Accelerated Reader, UIL, Math Superstars, Orchestra, Choir, Rising Star and many more.
Training . . .
Teachers were also trained in the Independent Investigative
Method while at Confratute. IIM
teaches students the 7 steps of research, first at a basic level and then moves
slowly into a proficient level. The
use of IIM greatly enhances the enrichment clusters in the SEM, as well as
regular curriculum instruction. Campbell is committed to including a wide variety of strategies to meet our student’s needs, including:
Teachers are kept abreast of the latest research based instructional strategies. At Campbell, staff, parents, and community members are dedicated to supporting and nurturing our Cougar Cubs in every way!! |
