MEN WHO COOK SPONSORS - 2010 Men Who Cook Flyer
The Lamar Educational Awards Foundation urges everyone to strictly observe their New Year’s pledge to eat less. That will mean you will be plenty hungry for "Men Who Cook, 2010," which will feature the culinary treats of 51 "celebrity" cooks, along with dancing and auctions. The event will be held February 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Texas Ballroom at Safari Texas Ranch. Jeff Council will be the auctioneer for the evening and the Billie Ledbetter Orchestra will provide the evening’s musical entertainment. Proceeds from the evening are used to support the creative ideas and classroom projects by Lamar CISD teachers that would otherwise go unfunded. L.E.A.F. also offers scholarship to graduating Lamar CISD students and to paraprofessionals working on their teaching certificates. In nine years of existence, LE.A.F. has invested more than $1 million into LCISD schools. Underwriters at the Silver L.E.A.F. level for the event include Aetna, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Carolyn and Neil Banfield, Consolidated Home Health, Consolidated Property Advisors, Fluor, Gurecky Manufacturing, Jackie Leaman, Jan and Lee Leaman, Linebarger Goggan Blair and Sampson LLP, Memorial Hermann – Sugar Land, Nalco Company, Sandra and Bill Billingsley, Trina and Andy Sanford, United Environmental Services, Universal Corrosion Specialists and United Healthcare. Thirty individuals and business will serve as Bronze L.E.A.F. sponsors. That list includes include Amegy Bank, Bass Construction, Bonbrook Plantation, Coastal Butane, DBR Engineering Consultants, DHK Development, Drymalla Construction, Firethorne, First Southwest Company and Gilbane. Also, IDC Inc., Imperial Sugar Company, Kathy and Lonnie Meadows/NewFirst Insurers, Lakemont/Walnut Creek, Lee Mahlmann, DDS, McGriff Seibels & Williams and NewFirst National Bank. Bronze sponsors also include Null Lairson, OakBend Medical Center, PBK Architects, Paul and Janice Knight, Perdue, Brandon, Fielder, Collins & Mott LLP, RiverPark West, The Hunton Group, Southwest Water Company, Thompson & Horton LLP, Trendmaker, VLK Architects, Vinson & Elkins and Williams Development & Construction Inc. Tickets for the gala are $50. For more information regarding L.E.A.F. or to purchase tickets, contact Janice Knight at 832.223.0334.
Men Who Cook 2010 Preparations Under Way Recipes are
being tried out. Dresses are being tried on. Now you must decide what auction
item to try for. The planning
committee for Men Who Cook 2010 is finalizing the details for this year’s event,
to be held February
20, at Safari Texas in Richmond. The festivities begin at 6:30 p.m., with the
Billie Ledbetter Orchestra providing the evening’s musical entertainment. While
the tasty temptations of more than 70 celebrity chefs is reason enough to
attend, auctioneer-extraordinaire
Jeff Council will be on hand to dispense with seven exciting items in the live
auction. If
you like to travel, spending 4 days 3 nights on South Padre Island in Bob and
Marcia Vogelsang’s beachside condo might be the package for you. A
weekend trip to the Host Reserve in Leakey is also up for bid. You and five
friends will spend the weekend in blissful peace, rocking away on the front
porch of their log cabin.
Then
again, if sailing floats your boat, you might enjoy 3 days and 2 nights on
Beverly Banfield’s 50-foot houseboat, cruising around Lake Travis, near
Austin. If shopping till you drop is your
interest, six lucky shoppers will be whisked away to enjoy a guided trip to the
Original Round Top Antique Fair in March.
If
you like to entertain, invite 11 of your friends to enjoy a meal prepared by
Chef Rey in the Old Potting Shed at Union Chappell Farms in Fulshear. If
you have a bigger group to entertain, Jimmy Cantu of Pier 36 will host an
evening of appetizers and drinks at Old South Plantation. And
what would an auction be at this time without tickets to the Houston Livestock
Show and Rodeo. You can be “the best Mom/Dad EVER!” when you bring home four tickets to the
Jonas Brothers! Proceeds from
the evening are used to support the creative ideas and classroom projects by
Lamar CISD teachers that would otherwise go unfunded. L.E.A.F. also offers
scholarship to graduating Lamar CISD students and to paraprofessionals working
